Learn more about Community Forests

The resources provided on this page pertain to forests owned and managed by local communities. See Background Information for resources pertaining to broader community forestry efforts and other related background information.

The Community Forests in the United States conference addresses the needs and experiences of local entities (towns, counties, tribes, and local non-profits) that own and manage forestland on behalf of communities. Community Forests allow communities to influence the management of their surrounding landscape through ownership at the local level. This conference provides an opportunity for communities who already own forestland to share experiences and skills, and for those considering this option to assess whether their community is ready to make such a commitment.
